Privacy Policy

Effective 2 October 2026

The short version

  • We don't track you. No advertising, no ad networks, no profiling, no cookies at all. We count page views anonymously and count how many families use the app each week — nothing more (section 4).
  • We don't sell or share your data. There is nobody to sell it to. Amazon Web Services stores it on our behalf, Stripe takes payment if you buy a paid plan, and Google hosts our email inbox, which is where anything you choose to send us arrives. That is the entire list of companies involved.
  • We ask for one thing about each child: a first name. No age, no birthday, no photo, no email, no address. Those fields don't exist in our database.
  • Money Buckets never touches your kids' money. It is a ledger for money you and your kid settle in real life. No bank or card connection exists for their balances. If you buy a paid plan, you pay Stripe directly, and your card number never reaches us.
  • Want it all gone? Email hello@bluejay.digital and we will delete your account and everything in it.

The rest of this page is the detail behind those five points. It describes what the software actually does, not what we hope to do later.

1. Who we are

Money Buckets is owned and operated by Blue Jay Digital, LLC, a Utah limited liability company and a one-person company run by a dad of young kids. When this policy says "we", that's who it means. You can reach a human at hello@bluejay.digital.

2. What we collect from you

Creating a Money Buckets account requires two things:

  • Your email address. It is your sign-in name. We use it to verify the address when you sign up, to let you reset a forgotten password, and to contact you about your account.
  • A password. Sign-in is handled by Amazon Web Services. Your password is stored hashed — we never see it, and it never reaches our code in plain text. It must be at least eight characters and include an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a number and a symbol.

One thing is optional:

  • Your first and last name. Blank unless you fill it in, and editable or removable at any time on the Settings page.

If you buy Pro or Founder Lifetime, you pay on a checkout page run by Stripe, and Stripe collects your card and billing details directly, under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your card number. What we keep is a Stripe customer reference, which plan you're on, whether it bills monthly or yearly, and when it renews or ends. Stripe gets your account email address so it can send receipts.

If you choose to send us feedback from inside the app, we keep what you send:

  • Your message and the kind of feedback you picked (bug, idea, question or "love it").
  • A little context, listed on the form before you send it: the app section you came from (by name, never a child's record), your plan, how many children are on your account, and your browser's description of itself (its user-agent).
  • Your account email, only if you tick "You can reply to me", so we can answer you. Leave it unticked and no address is attached.

Each message is stored with your account and also emailed to our inbox at hello@bluejay.digital, using Amazon's email service, so we see it promptly. That inbox is hosted by Google Workspace (section 6). We use feedback only to answer you and improve Money Buckets. It is kept until your account is deleted and deleted along with it. The feedback form sends exactly what it lists, and nothing is collected in the background.

Beyond what you give us, one thing is recorded as you use the app: which weeks your account was active, explained in section 4.

That is the complete list. We do not collect a phone number, a mailing address or a date of birth. There is no "sign in with Google" or similar, so no other company learns that you have an account here.

3. What you enter about your children

Everything the app knows about your kids is something you typed in. Specifically:

  • A first name for each child. A nickname works exactly as well — nothing checks it against anything.
  • Their three bucket balances — give, save and spend — and the percentage split you chose.
  • Every transaction you record: the amount, whether it went in or out, the date, and a short description you write.
  • Wishes: what your child is saving for, an emoji, the target amount and how much is saved so far.
  • Chores: a title, the "definition of done" you write, the reward, and how often it repeats.
  • Power Hour sessions: how long, the pay rate, which kids took part and what each was paid.
  • Badges: which Journey badges you and each child have earned, and when. The app works these out from the records above — nothing new is asked of you — and keeps a copy of the child's first name with each one.

Just as importantly, here is what the app never asks for and has nowhere to store: age, date of birth, gender, photograph, avatar, home address, phone number, email address, school, grade or location. These are not optional fields left blank — they do not exist in the database at all.

One thing to keep in mind. The description fields — a transaction's note, a chore's "definition of done", a wish title — are free text, and whatever you type is stored exactly as you typed it.

They are a good place for "took the bins out Thursday" and a poor place for anything you would not want written down. Please keep sensitive details out of them.

4. What we don't do, and the little we measure

This section is longer than most of the others, and that is the point.

  • No advertising, no ad networks, no profiling. We do not run ads, work with advertising networks, use tracking pixels, or build a profile of you or your family.
  • No cross-site tracking. We do not follow you around the internet, and we do not buy or receive information about you from anyone else.
  • No selling, renting or sharing your data. Not to data brokers, not to marketers, not to anyone.
  • No cookies. This site sets none — not one, not even a "necessary" one. There is no cookie banner here because there is nothing to ask you to consent to. (If you buy a paid plan, Stripe's checkout page, on Stripe's own domain, uses its own cookies to prevent fraud. Those belong to Stripe and are never set on this site.)
  • No font or asset CDNs. Our fonts are served from our own servers rather than Google Fonts, so no other company is told that you visited this site.
  • No connection to any bank or debit card for your kids' money. Money Buckets is a virtual ledger — balances track money you and your kid settle in real life. The ability to move your family's money is not switched off; it was never built. The only payment in the product is your own subscription, and Stripe handles it (section 6).

What we measure

Two things, both small, so we can tell whether Money Buckets is useful and which parts of it get used. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no heatmap, no session recording and no A/B testing tool.

  • Anonymous page views. When a page of this site or a section of the app opens, your browser tells Amazon CloudWatch (part of Amazon Web Services, which already hosts everything) the name of the page — for example /pricing or /family-hub/chores. Along with it go the kind of browser, operating system and device, the browser's language setting, and a rough country that Amazon works out from the connection. No cookie is set and nothing is saved on your device, so a page view cannot be linked to your next visit, to your account or to your children. Page names never contain an ID: every child's page is counted as the same page. Amazon keeps page views for 30 days, and we look at them only as totals per page. If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal, no page views are sent at all.
  • Which weeks your account was used. The first time you open the app in a week (Monday to Sunday), we store a record saying your account was active that week — the week number and nothing else: not which pages, not what time, nothing about your children. It is tied to your account, because counting each family once per week is the whole point. We use it only to count active families, and we look at it only as a total per week. It is kept until your account is deleted, deleted along with it, and never shared.

That is all of it. If we ever measure anything more, we will update this page before it goes live, not after.

A Content Security Policy on our servers restricts what the browser is allowed to load and where it may connect, so nothing can quietly attach itself to these pages without us choosing it.

5. Children's privacy

Money Buckets is designed for parents to use alongside their kids, and it is built so that the child is never the one handing over information.

  • Children do not have accounts. They do not sign up, do not sign in, and are never asked for an email address, a password, or any way of contacting them.
  • You hold the only account, and everything the app knows about your family is something you entered.
  • The only personal detail stored about a child is a first name — and a nickname serves just as well, which is a reasonable choice if you would rather we held nothing real at all.
  • Kids View asks for nothing. The child-facing screen only displays what is already there. There is no form on it, and no way for a child to send us anything.

We collect no information directly from children, and we do not knowingly hold anything about a child beyond what a parent has typed in. If you believe we are holding information about your child that you did not enter or did not intend, email hello@bluejay.digital and we will look into it and remove it.

6. Where your data is stored

Your account, your family's data and the website itself are all hosted on Amazon Web Services, on servers located in the United States.

If you buy a paid plan, Stripe, Inc. processes the payment. Stripe receives your email address and whatever you enter on its checkout page. It never receives anything about your children. Our email inbox, hello@bluejay.digital, is hosted by Google Workspace. Anything you send us — an email, or a message from the in-app feedback form — is held there under Google's Workspace data processing terms, and Google does not use Workspace data for advertising. It never receives your children's records. AWS, Stripe and Google Workspace are our only service providers; no other company processes your data on our behalf.

If you use Money Buckets from outside the United States, your data is stored in the United States.

Every record is tagged with the account that created it, and the database checks that ownership on every single read and write. One family's data cannot be read by another account.

7. What's stored on your device

A few things live in your browser's local storage and are never sent to us. The anonymous page-view counter in section 4 stores nothing here.

  • Your sign-in session. The token issued when you sign in — this is what keeps you signed in between visits.
  • A running Power Hour timer, so a session survives a reload or a closed laptop.
  • Which plan you're checking out for, held for the trip to Stripe's checkout page and back, then cleared.
  • Which badges this device has already celebrated, so each new badge is announced once per screen.
  • The last week this device recorded your account as active, so the record in section 4 is written once a week rather than on every visit.

Clearing your browser data clears all of the above: you will be signed out, and your local preferences return to their defaults. Nothing stored in the cloud — your kids, their balances, their history — is affected.

8. Deleting, exporting and correcting your data

These are handled by email today rather than by a button in the app. Write to hello@bluejay.digital from the address on your account and we will do our best to help you:

  • Delete everything — your account and all of your family's data. We aim to deal with deletion requests promptly, normally within about 30 days. Deleting your account ends any subscription. Stripe keeps its own record of past payments for as long as the law requires.
  • Get a copy of what we hold, in a format you can read.
  • Correct anything that is wrong and that you cannot fix yourself. Most of your data is editable directly in the app.

Removing a single child on the Settings page deletes their record along with their transactions, wishes, chores and badges. There is one deliberate exception: Power Hour payout history keeps a copy of the child's first name, so that a past family session still reads correctly afterwards rather than showing a blank. If you would like that erased as well, just ask and we will see what we can do.

We would like to build deletion and export directly into the app. Until that happens, email is the route, and it is a real one.

9. Security

  • All traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted with HTTPS. Amazon encrypts the stored data at rest.
  • Passwords are handled entirely by Amazon Web Services and are never visible to us.
  • Every read and write checks that the record belongs to the account asking for it, so one account cannot reach another's data.
  • A Content Security Policy restricts what the browser is allowed to load and where it is allowed to connect.

No system is perfect, and we would rather hear about a problem than not. If you find one, email hello@bluejay.digital.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change something material — particularly what we collect, or who else is involved in handling it — we will update the date at the top of this page, and will generally try to let account holders know by email or a notice in the app. Smaller corrections and wording fixes just get a new date, so it is worth checking back here from time to time.
